Internet sites, ebooks on Industrial Process, Manufacturing, etc...

06/25/2007 1:02 AM

Hi Guys,

Is anybody here knows internet links or ebooks or books that discuss Industrial Process, Manufacturing, Time Standard, Number of Operators, Machine utilization, start-up cost, etc?

I'm new to my work (sort of Industrial Engineer for automotive fuse box/smart junction box)and I wanted to know everything. I'm an Electrical Engineering graduate so I really don't have lots of ideas regarding the industrial engineering field.

Internet links for Industrial Engineers, ebooks, and any inputs for me to broaden my understanding on the industrial field is very helpful. Softwares or spreadsheets will be a great help too...

Thanks you very much...

:)

28 years ago, a young graduate entrant to a major production plant for a hobbies and leisure item for a company that is a worldwide household name spent three weeks on a 3-shift rota basis simply observing and asking questions in a 24h production operation environment. Today that same individual will occupy an odd lull in the workload simply by walking around and seeing what is going on.

The value of opportunities to study and the actual operation and discuss it with colleagues is often underestimated. One learns something new every day. Some buzzwords:

  • MBWA [Management by Walking About]
  • GOYA [imagination needed here....]

so, it was you, 28 years ago? hehehe

I love the nature of my work; it's just that I don't know everything about the industrial process... I still need to master it... and even the prices of the machine, time standards and everything...

The sad part is our manufacturing plant is a 20 minute ride from my desk...huh!

and it has only one line yet... My(our) project is to occupy the the whole plant (capable of 7 lines)... it's "sort" of a starting manufacturing plant...

any good links or books that I must read? I badly need your suggestions...

One of our product is fuse box for cars... (also includes control box with PCBs.)
