Study which materials have been used on existing ploughs, evaluate them, reject the worst and select the best.

  • One wouldn't use expanded polystyrene, for instance.

disks are ordinary 1050 to 1070 carbon steel.and a layer of 12-14% Manganese Steel will make it high resistance to wear i am suggesting you because it used on the mixing blades of concrete mixers and gives long life span.

Are you fabricating this disc plow for your own use, and as such intend to repair/reface the discs as needed yourself?

.

Or are you intending to market the disc plow? If so, that market will be important to you selection of material. Do you hope to sell replacement discs/repair, i.e. do you hope discs or repairs will be continuing revenue stream? Will the customers you are targeting pay a premium for going longer between disc repair/replacement?
