NPSM female to NPT male

06/26/2007 10:59 AM

I need to connect a double check quick disconnect to a hose. The QD is 1/2" NPSM female threaded and the hose to pipe is 1/2 NPT male threaded. Using thread sealing compound will this be an acceptable connection? Service is intermitent and will be used to load/ unload lubricating oil with a 100 PSI max pump

What does NPSM stand for? Is it a thread type? I hadn't heard of it (perhaps it's well-known in US but not here in UK) so I Googled it. Link below says thread sealing compound is not required.

I am assuming that the NPSM female is a swivel?

In order for this to seal correctly, the 1/2" NPT male fitting should have a 30° internal taper seat (female) for the corresponding NPSM male taper inside the swivel. If it doesn't, it won't seal properly.

Because this is a taper seat seal, no compound is necessary.

Codemaster, this is very similar to a BSPP connection, only NPT threads.

NPSM is a parallel thread but it will mate with the NPT thread OK and with thread sealing will easily take 100PSI.

Just make sure you use similar materials
