Revision of IFC drawing

06/06/2014 12:43 AM

What are all the reasons behind pipe fouling during pipe erection (process plant and power plant construction)?? Pipe erection is going on at our site as per IFC (Issued For Construction) drawing which was signed and sealed by our client's design department people. However, plenty of design flows observed during erection. Plenty of Revisions are occurring in construction drawings during erection and after pipe erection. Due to this problem, construction activity speed is very low. Our welders, fabricators, NDT team, PWHT team are idle and they are even afraid to complete a job due to revision terror Our management is very angry due to this issue and they are preparing a proposal for revised erection rate exclusively for revised drawing's work

PS: i personally discussed this issue with one of the field piping engineer from our client side.Unfortunately ,he is clueless and told me that this may be due to FEED problem.

Presumably, your managers with possess a contract document that will have anticipated project variations covering the content of your question. Consult it to determine the answers you require.

I checked construction philosophy of the current project and applicable contract documents. But it doesnot mention anything about pipe foul issue during erection. I strongly feel, field mismatch is due to sabotage of aliens

Not French poloocemen, then?

It's not your problem.

It's the Project Manager's problem.

The reasons for Pipe fouling are not possible to determine based on the information.. if the fabrication and construction is being carried out to the the standards and details of Construction Issue drawings & SPECIFICATION then the issue is design related either in terms of materials specified or physical layout.

In relation to delays, inefficient working etc.. that is a contractual issue and there are provisions in contracts to deal with these.. Usually notifications to client/ clients project management is required and followed details of delays and associated costs..

Changes are variations, while lost time and inefficient working are claims.. difference being variations are usually quantifiable and easy to cost by both parties.. claims tend to be harder to quantify as disagreement over times, amount of resources etc..

Records will be hugely important in the resolution of this issue.. Detailed records need to be kept on When issue arose, When client Informed, Timescale to Solution, time & resources standing due to issue, Time & Resources to implement solution.. Project QS should be looking after this based on information provided by site management

Dependent on the client and your relationship with them.. maybe in your interest to agree additional costs prior to works where possible and get them signed off. Also add them to interim accounts as they arise.. Otherwise you could be faced with war of attrition when it comes to settling the accounts..
