Solenoid Valve Help Request

06/27/2007 1:09 PM

I am in need of some schooling.

I have a 450 PSI compressed air source with a 1/4" fitting --- I need to connect it to a 1/4" venturi vacuum chamber via a solenoid that can be turned on/off with 12VDC.

So, what should I use? I know it needs to be a simple 2-way, 1/4", 12v solenoid ... but things like "maximum pressure difference" and "maximum working water PSI" are throwing me off.

Price is kind of a concern, as I am an individual doing a very small project.

Thank you for your help!

Go to www.fpweb .com , open the "Designers Guide" and search for Regultors and Directional Controls.

I would regulate the air down to 80 PSI and use a standard solenoid valve that is readily available. You would probably be smart to use a Flow Control to limit the volume of air used also.

Can the 450psi be reduced to something more agreeable, like 60-100psi first? If it can, then it makes the selection of pneumatic equipment much easier.

RS Components offers an over-the-telephone service for small quantities of parts to non-business customers and payment can be made by credit/debit card with next-day delivery. The website gives a wide range of equipment for pneumatics (usual disclaimer, and other suppliers are available).

Solenoid valves are ported you need to find one that will supply the proper volume for you venturi vacuum chamber.

all valves (solenoids) are rated with A MOP (maximum Operating Pressure) and Maximum Differential Pressure (differential when closed).size and calculate valve to specs.
