Didn't you get anywhere with your cable distributor on the phone, then?

Usually the control cable is the easy cable to specify. The control signals are usually low power and can be often handled wirelessly. Occasionally they include some very high frequency signals (i.e. incremental encoder, ethernet communication) but since you give us nothing to work with, I'll dismiss this complication. Your problem will probably be with the power distribution cabling. Depending on your robotic application you may want to use high flex wires and flex armor or cable retraction for the wire paths.

An internet search of "control cable robotics" found a few.

Technical characteristics to note when purchase?

Suitable for robotics applications. That should be enough for a starting point for a cable manufacturer as this is a specialised cable designed specifically for the stresses experienced in robotics applications.

Another type of flexible cable could potentially be used but it really depends on the application. Is the robot under water, exposed to solvents, a T-600, etc? There is no one cable type fits all applications.

Talk your particular application over with a cable manufacturer.

I've used Belden infinity type cables in wafer handler robots.
