Motor Oil Rating Service

06/23/2014 4:36 PM

I came across this site that claims to be an independent tester of name brand off the shelf motor oils. I always wondered about (but would never buy) some of those really odd-ball names out there, and apparently this group chases them down and calls out the really bogus stuff. I was wondering if anybody has heard of or followed them.

Interesting site, I liked the actual cautions about substandard oils and the fact that they let you know if a particular oil: "All tests conducted on this sample meet the specifications for API SN and ILSAC GF-5 5W-30 Engine oil," or not.

But, I always specify only one oil in all my vehicles, so I never worry about what I'm buying.

Too much information for me to digest.
