combination pH/ORP probes

06/30/2007 7:11 PM

Anyone out there have any experience with combination pH/ORP probes. We have a wastewater operation at our plant and use separate probes to measure our pH and ORP. But doing some looking around have seen combination probes made by a couple of companies, one of them Yokogawa. Haven't been able to get the local supplier to answer questions or provide a reference list of companies or locations using the probe. I would like to find out if this would be worthwhile for the company to switch to. Cost wise it seems to be a no brainer, but does it really work and does it last.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest that you contact Hach Company, who are based in Colorado actually, Loveland, just out of Denver.

Yes, they work well. Like anything else, take proper care of them and they'll do their job well for years.

Personally I like separate probes and transmitters. The reason: you can take one unit out of service for cleaning or calbrating without affecting the other. And, if the electronics (transmiiter) fails for one probe, you do not lose the other when they are separate devices. Lastly, with a dual probe, if one portion of the probe malfunctions, you have to replace the whole unit which is more costly that just replacing one defective probe, ph or orp.

actually, the combination probe that I found from Yokogawa is less than 1/2 the cost of one pH probe, and the ORP probe that we are using is even more expensive. So like I said, costwise it seems to be a no brainer. But the local supplier is not returning my calls for current users of the product, so the powers that be are reluctant to purchase. If they won't return calls of that nature, how are they going to be with service or support.
