Operating System/Communication Protocol???

07/01/2014 2:02 AM

Hey guys, got a question about computer communication protocol here, much of a noob on this topic so please enlighten me.

Does Operating System contain Communication Protocol such as USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wifi, Bluetooth, ect?

If that's not the case then where are those protocol stored and implemented? Directly from hardware?

Cheers :)

Hey guys I just want to ask a question but I dont want to put in any effort to know myself...

Excuse me if I let you know that this is not how it works here.

Free stuff comes only from free effort.

What did your internet research produce that you do not understand and need some help with?

Noob!

You don't have to answer if you don't want to. Can't believe you wasted your time to post something nasty

You called yourself a noob so go with it.

I must admit you said "please", but this still does not exempt yourself from being proactive and search for information before posting a question.

How much of an internet research have you done?

There is dozens of communication protocols and they are implemented in libraries and the system registries. They also can be implemented in the hardware.

I deem this common knowledge. The way you asked the question gets you nowhere. Why did you really want to know?

Was my response helpful? I kept it as simple as possible.

IdeaSmith is probably thinking more along the lines of trying a search on something like Wikipedia (which has a lot of good information) first.

Technically this is clearly mentioned in the CR4 rules (perform search first before asking questions here, etc), but then again who actually reads those.

;)

Thanks mate, it was simpler to understand indeed. I don't have background in software so obviously all the technical words don't make sense to me. Had a brief understanding of those topic, just needed someone to confirm it for me, that's all.

Yeh I am a noob on this topic, hence the question. If I knew better I wouldn't ask lol.

Don't get upset folks haha, just ignore it if you can't say nice stuff.

Think of it as two separate things, the hardware installed in the computer (the USB plugs, the WiFi transmitter/receiver, etc) and the software drivers that allow the computer programs wanting to use the hardware to interface with the hardware.

Try an internet search and have a look at the Windows - Control Panel - Device Manager page on your computer for a clearer idea.

Makes the electrical department look really good. The gent has asked a simple question, admits to being a novice which you all were at one time or another, and not one of has had the common courtesy to him a decent answer.

?

Dito!

Which department are you talking about?

He asked a simple reassuring question which could be answered by a little bit of effort from the "noob" himself.

I dont know about you, but a self choosen noob does not get support.

If in doubt refer to the rules!

Jack mentioned that earlier!

Oh for god sake. It's just a place for people to discuss things n learn from each other. I learnt a lot from nice fella around here. U don't have to answer it alright. Did somebody force u to type? There's thing people good at n there's thing that they r not, n that's normal. I called myself a noob n u keep pressing on that, u prob one of those who never leave comfort zone to learn new things. Ur not a constructive person, have a lot of negative energy.

If you read the link that he posted as I did, it was good information. The article stated the difference between a "noob" and a "newb". If I were you, I would have simply stated what is obvious to me... you had a misspelling or were unaware of the definition of a noob vs. a newb.

Refer to #2 tdoan.

The operating system software installation package may or may not include drivers for these communications hardware devices when it is installed.

Hardware has firmware in it. You may have noticed that some hardware has firmware in it that, when first installed, will alert the OS that it is there and to then either load a driver that it just happens to have tucked away inside it, turns on a driver that the OS package already has or asks you to install a driver from another source as part of its getting to work properly ceremony.

Google on the TCP/IP 7 layer model. You'll find everything from geek talk to easy there. Basically it can exist anywhere from on the chip to in the os as long as it meets the model.
