Mechanical Valves

Hi, After my graduation(Electrical&Electronics engg) I got a job in ship as a electrical officer.where I have to know atleast some basics,types and functions of mechanical valves used in normal pipeline system and different parts of pipes like flange,bellow etc.can any one list me some useful information so,i can download from those sources.

Get some pipe/valve/fittings catalogs. You can learn a lot from a catalog. Everything I know about anything onboard a ship, I learned by being on that ship. A walk through with someone who knows, is usually enough to be able to identify the various working parts of a ship. It's a hands-on thing. These are things that are part of the learning experience. You see something; you identify it; you look it up in a catalog and read about it. The combination of visual and reading registers in your brain, so when someone tells you it's a solenoid operated valve for 600 psi service, you will know what he's talking about. Don't sweat over it. It will come to you with more experience.
