Toyota 5FD25 Hydraulic Problems

07/21/2014 6:38 PM

All help is greatly appreciated:

I recently purchased a diesel Toyota 5FD25 forklift. The unit runs great no engine troubles. The problem I have is the hydraulics work fine with little to no load on them but anything over about 1000lbs and they won't work. Can anyone point me in the right direction to testing the pressures on the lines and filters to check before I tackle changing the pump. Also a service manual would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CR4.

Toyota Fork Lift Service Maintenance Manuals Forklift ...

Change all the filters, now.

The manuals should help with testing. You may have to put gauges in line if the filters don't help.

How old? How many hours? Any idea if it has had ANY maintenance? Any strange noises when you try to lift heavy loads?

Did the seller say, "trust me everything works perfectly"?

You'd do well to get to know a local repair shop.

Been awhile, as I remember the Hydraulic pump has a test port on it and pressure valve. Recommend you get some type test weight. If the pressure is over adjusted it can severely damage the mast. If the chains don't brake first. Also the power steering is ran off this same hydraulic pump. Too much pressure can bend the rod on the cylinder. Both these devices have stops.

Sounds to me like the pressure relief valve is either misadjusted or needs a seal kit or spring installed.
