Component Search.

07/23/2014 11:02 AM

I am designing an actuator using ball screws, and I am having trouble locating a supplier for an item. I know they are out there; I'm about half way through on Globalspec suppliers… and did some calls and inquiries. I left a message.

I also checked out their websites, but have been coming up with nothing.

So while I'm waiting for a return call, I thought I bounce this off of the members here if they know of it.

What I am looking for is idler spur gear with a bearing built in and an idler shaft that would fit in a slot for adjustment. Also if I have to change gearing to get the best output for performance and is out of the Motor control range.

I have a sketch of the transfer below, and what I currently have for spur gears.

I also called into Martin Sprocket and Rush Gears. They haven't returned my call on the idler as of yet.

So I am looking for a Spur Gear with a built in bearing, preferably close to what is listed.

And the idler shaft that would fit in the slot with the main bolt used for adjustment and tightening.

actually I did search Misumi, the gear they had was smaller.... about 2-1/2 inch.....

I believe the DP was 12 with a pressure angle of 20 degrees....

I'll check your links I may have missed something.

thanks.

Might be easier to alter the design to fit what's available....but that's a judgement call eh?....

That's what I was thinking, I should make it work because I made allowances for it...

I must of just missed it, I was on their site their morning, your links helped, I may have to make the T-Slot Idler shaft, but looking at it, that may not be too bad.

Thanks again, I owe you one.

If you can find the spur gear you need, get one with a small bore and send it to these guys: http://www.pcimfg.com/ and they will modify the bore for bearing seats and snap rings and they will mount it on a stud (idler/stub shaft) and there you go.

There are so many options, the only down fall I see, is US Standard Units or Metric.

Everything else on this unit is US Standard and the only problem I see, if I put a metric spur gear on it, I'm going to have to do some machining, that's what I wanted to avoid I wanted as many off the shelf parts as I can.

If I was going to do machine, I'll go with US standard gears from Martin and machine the idler gear and make the idler bolt. The rest is purchased off the shelf.

S.E. give me a push to see that. and it's actually fairly simple.

Thanks for the contact.

Here is another place to look for gears: http://www.classicgears.com/ they are easy to work with and have good response times.
