Lyn is an elderly woman in real life?

Well, that explains it!

That's our Lyn. Looks just like her. She was probably drunk.

Were you in an arroyo? I know from experience that those are the last places I'd ever want to be again in a storm. No warning. Period.

No, we were in a dry wash.

Interestingly, while it was still daylight we had surveyed the terrain "upwash", and concluded that since we could see all the high ground of the watershed for this wash, it probably would not flood.

Had dinner, went inside camper, everything dry. Crawled into sleeping bags and heard strange noise outside. Opened door to 18 inches of river running under us.

Drove truck out of wash, surveyed what had been our camp, got dressed, and went home to sleep in a dry bed.

Next time you go deer hunting you'll know to bring your canoe.

It would suck to drown in the desert. Kinda like being run down by a scooter.

Choking on a Jello shot. Breaking your neck while hanging Christmas lights. Having the car jack kick out on you while you were just taking a peek underneath....

What many don't realise is that most deserts are only fair-weather deserts. In heavy rains they can become a bluddy torrent in minutes.

Actually it's more like being mistaken for a deer and shot in a "no hunting zone", or being electrocuted during a power outage, or....

I'll never go hunting with Dick Cheney.

It would be a bummer to get accidentally killed by a guy that's been having heart attacks since the 70's.

With all that collective experience in deer hunting in a flooding desert with no canoe, maybe a visit next year to the Henley-on-Todd regatta in the middle of Australia should be added to your bucket list. (This year's event was last weekend ... 3rd Saturday in August each year). Pick your means of 'floation'.

The Australian mainland has a total coastline length of 35,876 km (22,292 mi) with an additional 23,859 km (14,825 mi) of island coastlines and so you have your regattas .... inland. Heehee.

I knew there was something I liked about y'all and you just nailed it.

Talking of nails, we attached a couple of bits to a keel, called it a winged keel and then knocked off the America's Cup in 1983 ... it's sort of an engineering story!
