Power Board Connections

08/22/2014 1:32 AM

Hello ,

I am after some help for connecting about six (6) double power points from a separate line distance from Meters (Power Board) 14 metres , allowing a drop of approx. 2.5v ... I would like to install a self tripping Fuse @ the end of the line (B4 the six power points) to save going back to Main Pwr Board if fuse is tripped ...!!!

Is this feasible , or should I say is this a valid exercise or a "waste" of time and money ???

Thank you in anticipation of a prompt solution/advice.

240 volts 50 Hz cable handling capacity 15 amps

Yves

Please elaborate "selftripping fuse"

Sounds like you no need install any power lines if the fuse is self tripping.

On the other handside if you wish to install a fuse that automatically goes back to closed as in not having to be reset by hand you are wasting your time.

Where as if you are talking about a fuse that sits closer to the powerpoints as in being a additional fuse I believe this can be done. Power boards have fuses and are readily availble without even having to install anything else.

Could you, perhaps restate the question?

"six (6) double power points"?

"from a separate line distance from Meters"?

It just goes downhill from there......................................................................

The circuit protective device is there to protect the wiring. If the circuit protective device is in the wrong place, as suggested in the original post, then the wiring to be installed will need to be increased in size to suit the next protective device upstream.

In the UK, one follows British Standard 7671, otherwise one risks a measure of unpopularity with the building's fire insurance company when a fire occurs.

So, consult a qualified Electrician. If the works fall under Part P of the UK's Building Regulations, then a Part P qualified Electrician will be needed.

Don't forget to obtain a test certificate from that person at the end of the job.

"So, consult a qualified Electrician. If the works fall under Part P of the UK's Building Regulations, then a Part P qualified Electrician will be needed."

Part P of the building regulations is not a qualification, it's a requirement to notify building control of certain works which must comply with IET BS7671 amendment 1 2011.

Very little work now falls in the bounds of part P since the amendments of late 2013.

Building control can be notified of work by any trades person. (For a fee)

OK ..Thanks for all the response(s) ...As it has been said B4 a picture is worth .....Unfortunately ..or should I say fortunately ...well "Beauty is in the eye of the be-holder" .... I live in Ozland (Down-Under) ...
The cable is less than 25 metres long from Meter Box , but to "reset" (assuming it has been tripped (= in OFF position for US readers) is a fair walk around the big shed and outside ...!!! Well we are all a "bit lazy" .... All in all , It was a "simple" question , without any "aggro" comment necessary ....

If it NOT constructive and Pro-Active ...Please "abstain" ...

Rgds

Thank you

Yves

I am guessing Ozland (Down Under) is Australia.

Well we are all a "bit lazy"

So am I this morning, have you read your copy of AS/NZS 3000 as I believe your will find your answer there (that or in your local state electrical regs).

My condolences on your loss to us in the Rugby last night (not).
