HVAC Mechanical Parts

09/08/2014 12:05 PM

Hi,

I am instrumentation engineer, we are buying HVAC unit along with analyzer house for petrochemical project.

Being an instrumentationn engineer, I dont have any idea about what are the mechanical parts of HVAC. I heard name of few components like compressor, condenser, blower fan but I dont know how all components are linked to performed together.

Also I would like to know how auxilliary fan comes in picture in case of HVAC failuer.

I tried to google information but its not giving me these basic details.

I would appreciate if anyone could give me insight of HVAC details.

Google will provide mountains of good information.

It's too complicated to waste time typing a detailed explanation when you can search for it yourself.

No one definitely wants to waste time if all of the required information was already on google.

Do not hide behind the instrumentation. You call yourself an engineer start being one.

If you did search for what you want to know then what did you come up with so far? Asking a general question where to find information is one thing, but not to tell us what you found already is just leaving us with guess work.

But then I dont understand why you need information about mechanical parts not being a mechanical engineer.

How about an internet research about "HVAC instrumentation"?

If in doubt follow Lyn's links.

Let me answer your ques. first..

If you read my initial question then you would understand why I am asking abt. HVAC.

I had query abt. auxiliary fan and purge blower.

I was under impression that people on such forums are to give technical help and not to criticize others. If you cant help someone then you better dont waste your precious time in typing such unnecessary comments.

In case you are not aware but you just wasted your precious time coming back to me instead of looking at the links provided.

In case you are not aware knowledge is nothing that can be given to you, it is something that you have to work on to obtain.

In case you are not aware but I pointed out that you were asking a general question which can be answered by a good internet research. Read the rules and come back when you have a specific question. So far you have not shown any initiative to learn.

In case you are not aware but if you ask a question on what and you get an answer on how to get to what then this is called education. Its part of telling you to make sure you know what it takes. It also means you need to phrase your question so it would be understood. What it actually is you need to know about blowers and fans?

Here is some more links (just in case you are not aware!)

A basic HVAC system has no auxiliary fan nor purge blower; these are special items that depend on particular characteristics of the whole system in view. To give reasonable advice, we need to know more detail of your objectives.

A basic HVAC system consists of liquid metering device, evaporator, compressor, and condenser; all in that repeated cyclical order. There may also be a receiver between the condenser and metering device, and an accumulator between the evaporator and compressor, and other accessories. Lyn's links should get you that far.

I'm guessing here, but when I went back to your original post and then this one, you mention that this is a system serving an analyzer building in a petrochemical plant. It is quite possible that this building requires special ventilation (possibly pressurization). If so, the HVAC system will perform functions beyond basic climate control.

Here's a brief article. And another one.

Yes , the analyser house we are buying is pressurized. And as you said, it has got some special requirements. Hence additional components such as purge blower, auxillary fans are added to take care of events such as LEL detection, house "P" low . I was looking for information like how these components are linked to conventional HVAC. Thanks for the information posted. I am trying to get more information from manufacturer.

If this is supplied with the analyzer house (or even if it's just supplied as a system), the vendor should supply an operating/maintenance manual. Actually, the function should have been specified and approved before the building was constructed.

Yes , agreed. HVAC is supplied along with the building and its yet not constructed.

We are at design stage with clear instructions aboout what all components are coming in there so it should not be a problem.

If you are interested in these components with the intent that you are going specify what to buy for your company, you really should consider having a qualified contractor specify and install the equipment.

It really sucks when an HVAC system is not working properly and usually the occupants of the office or building have no idea how much money is being wasted every moment of the day.

It pays off in short order to have it done right the first time. Just because you are the in-house mechanical engineer does not mean you have to be a Jack of all Trades. Fess up and tell them you have no idea and you recommend a qualified HVAC company to do the work, perhaps you can recommend who to hire instead trying to do the job yourself.

Good Luck!
