Adding Power Capacitor To HT Line

09/09/2014 2:35 AM

for improving the power factor and efficiency of the system we like to adding one more power capacitor to the existing system.

we are still using five numbers of 250KVAR in 11kv 50hz ,APP

total LT connected load is 5800kw

by using existing the five capacitor bank we are maintain power factor 0.98 without APFC system

our plant is one of old system

i am plan to connecting these five number of capacitor as base load KVAR corruction and the new capacitor may plan to connect used for fine adjustment of kvar.

let me know the details and specification of new added capacitor to system for the better regulation

You would be better off picking up the telephone and talking to capacitor manufacturers directly. I would be surprised if you could justify an improvement of .02 in terms of getting an adequate return on the investment needed to achieve it.

Just use five 60 Hz capacitors.

Or, quit while you're ahead. .98 is about as good as you will get.

As stated by a previous poster, 0.98PF is very good and for anyone to achieve 1 as a PF correction is impossible, 0.98PF is equated to 98% efficiency. To gain a PF of 1, you should switch of fluorescent lights, lightly loaded motors, computers etc. Gaining 0.02% makes no justifiable economic sense

What was your goal figure you had in mind to achieve?

we are going to commissioning a new plant having total connected load 1600KW but we are not connecting capacitor bank across this load

yes we have good power factor around 0.98 with existing connected load 5800kw. but after commissioning the newplant it may chance to go for the poor regulation and effect our pf incentives.

so that we need to add HT capacitor banks to our transmission line

suggest your openion for designing new ht capacitors for existing ht capacitors in transmission lines

thank you
