No thanks, I'll keep my 92 Toyota truck that is under my control. No big brother, no V2V communications, no cell phone. Isn't it bad enough with traffic cameras and license plate tracking programs on police cars?

So if your driverless car did look like a mini cathedral ... well, you're through to the semi-finals in focusing your prayers. Sure better than driving down the road with a couple of yellow V2V hoolla hoops to protect you from all those other mad bastards! Imagine the late night thrill seekers who might drive their cars with the V2V beacons turned off!

I hear you Fredski, However personal freedom comes with personal responsibility. After twenty years of "educating" our children that all that matters is feeling good about themselves we are now dealing with the fall out of an incredibly selfish and thoughtless society.

I have long understood that concept of personal responsibility and community responsibility. My children (ages 29 and 31)struggle with this concept to this day.

In any case,

A simple solution has been available for some time and some police depts have utilized it already.

The car is basically a small Faraday cage on wheels. The frame of which is easily energized with a blanking signal that prevents transmission or reception from inside the vehicle when activated but does not interfere with externally mounted antenna function.

Why this solution has not been instituted is beyond me accept for the fact that car makers have not yet been sued. Once that occurs, then change will happen.

It is a sad commentary on our society when responsibility is measured by litigation losses. Think GM.

Steps down from soap Box and seats himself.

Our cars are already run by many computers. They collect most details of your car's activity. (Models older than about 1995 are exceptions.) Given the established hackability of any reasonably modern car, if I were the NSA, I'd be able to tease out all the data your car currently collects.

BTW, our personal freedoms have been under attack since humans decided to form governments.

V-V is just an enhancement to our current so-called system that leverages the data that's already being collected to improve safety and efficiency of personal transport.
