Male Enhacement....Really?

09/26/2014 5:21 AM

I opened this news article this morning, and when I followed the link to the whole article, I got a pop up ad for some male enhancement stuff. WTF?

http://cr4.globalspec.com/blogentry/25327/Supply-Chain-Growth-Related-to-Unconventional-Oil-and-Gas

Am I going to have to clean out my computer after every visit?

I just opened it again and there was no pop up.

I can get any adware off my computer, but I need to know if you guys are selling ad space to these people.

I cleaned out my computer and went back to several news articles. No more pop ups so far.

However, why are comments closed on here, and what the heck is Livefyre? It says I have to subscribe to that to comment on anything.
No thanks.

Wait a minute!

It says to follow the link above to comment, and now I get this. A total redirect.

Since I just finished a computer cleaning minutes ago, I'm pretty certain that I'm being tagged with adware from your "new and improved" news section.

I can no longer read or access the article at all. I only get the cadalyst page.

Nice job.

kramarat, the link was incorrect. It has been fixed and should direct you to this page: http://insights.globalspec.com/article/59/supply-chain-growth-related-to-unconventional-oil-and-gas

I'm not sure about the male enhancement pop-up. It sounds like you have something on your own computer; I haven't seen anything similar or read other reports of the same.

The articles on the Engineering360 news and analysis site (http://insights.globalspec.com/) use a comment system that's separate from CR4. So, if you'd like to comment on those articles, you will need a Livefyre account.

Your browser or one of your plug-ins is misbehaving. You confused it with inconsistent browsing habits, it can't track you all that easy, so it is throwing you random baits, in this case probably triggered by the word "growth". I assume you are aware of the so called tracking companies that "lawfully" read and decrypt every other sites' cookie that once was ONLY readable by the site that originally placed it in your drive. This has changed long ago and everything you do is spied for... noble commercial reasons, just to provide you with more personalized advertisements. That's what they claim anyway. So it is not CR4 site itself, it is just forced to comply with this fascist garbage info sharing system as most sites. Now if by quriocity you hit on a similar "offer", even formatting your drive won't erase you from their databases, and you will soon have medical offers for surigcal... enlargement.(LOL) S.M.

Yeah. I'm up to flushing that garbage out of my computer at least twice a week.

Savvy-

The strange part was, the first attempt gave me the male enhancement pop up, but I was able to close it out and read the article.

From there I signed out and did the cleanup of my computer, signed back in, went back to the article and all was fine. I opened several other articles and all was fine. Then I went back to the original article and got the CAD site. After that happened, I could never open the original article again, the link always opened the CAD site...which to me, looked like I had picked up more adware from here.

I didn't go to any other sites after cleaning my computer.

Edit- I just checked it again and it was fine, but I still don't understand the point of shutting off comments on here and having us sign up for Livefyre to be able to comment.

What is Livefyre? Is it another IHS company?

The new News & Analysis tab (see the top of the masthead) has a lot of great writers working with us and posting features, news, and other content there.

The idea is to comment on those articles where they live rather than here on CR4. That way there aren't two discussions about the same topic in two different places.

The News & Analysis site is part of Engineering360. Livefyre is the commenting application that's being used on that part of the site. So, if you'd like to comment there, you'll need a Livefyre account.

CR4 has a different, custom built commenting platform. Engineering360 (like Jane's, Electronics360, and Maritime360) all use Livefyre. At some point in the future we'd like to move to one platform with one login for all of the places where you can comment.

Hmm...not sure about the wisdom of combining the platforms.

I can understand IHS looking to enhance it's exposure on a purely professional level, and CR4 is still a great place for the layman or people looking for answers outside of their expertise. On the other hand, being volunteers, we can tend to go way beyond the realm of professionalism...as you know.

Maybe a check valve to keep the CR4 nonsense from bleeding out into the rest of the IHS domain.

I guess Livefyre serves that purpose. Thanks.

What is this 'Enhacement' you keep mentioning?

Does 'Enhacement' refer to something causing HACE, high altitude cerebral edema? Is this about getting way too high? and why exclusively males? Females are susceptible to HACE, just like males, and so also need to be careful not to get too high.
