Here is a paper describing a system that be assembled for about $30k, which can be flown in a plane to rapidly survey wide swaths, mapping the exact chemical compounds.

Sure, this is being touted as a tool to hunt down drug growers and bomb builders, but maybe that is just the use they are publicizing. Perhaps this will also be used to monitor for cigarette smoke outside, trans-fat in picnic food, or non-Monsanto conforming farming practices.

Can it detect Dumbonium, the Idiocy particle?

I'm pretty sure we've got a critical mass of that over in DC. If so, we need to find a way to eliminate it or contain it. Thing what would happen to the neighboring states if it were to spill over, the fallout could even ruin New Jersey, assuming that Jersey COULD go any further downhill.
