Classeq is looking for a R&D Manager

10/13/2014 3:41 AM

We are looking for a self-motivated professional R&D Manager to join this successful team working within the catering equipment (dishwashers / glasswashers) industry.
Our existing product range is well established and accepted within the market place and yet we still have many opportunities to develop the existing range and introduce new products that will bring us greater success in the future.
Our existing product range is electromechanical in design, although we are presently exploring the introduction of electronics into the next generation of machines. For this reason candidates will be expected to have a broad engineering background and an understanding of electronics would be a advantage.
Being part of a small team this position will have a direct influence of all aspects of the product through conception, detailed design, manufacture, testing and customer satisfaction. The position of R&D manager reports to the Technical Director and sits alongside the Production Manager and Material Control Manager
Future plans are for more joint ventures between Classeq and our parent company Winterhalter which will require a matrix style of management within both companies. The role will be supported by the extended R&D department at our parent company (Winterhalter).
Though Classeq are part of a much larger group (Winterhalter) the actual team in Classeq (in Hixon) works autonomously for most of the time which means that this position holder will have the opportunity to work freely and contribute to real change within the products and company on a number of existing and new projects.

Who we're looking for
Candidates for the R&D Manager role will come from an electrical or electro-mechanical manufacturing environment and will have:
• Good Electro-mechanical, electrical design experience with proven track record
• Strong IT skills
• Excellent documentation skills and understanding of design life cycles
• Ability to communicate with customers and all external bodies professionally
• Good problem solving ability
• Strong managerial skills to lead and inspire product design & development meetings
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Some occasional travel abroad for product design and improvement meetings will be required
Required skills & expertise:
• Electro-mechanical Engineering
• Product Design
• Electrical design and legislation knowledge
• Knowledge of Solidworks or similar packages
• Proven project and man management skills

About our client
Based in Hixon, Staffordshire, Classeq find themselves well placed within the Catering Equipment market. They have a very successful existing product range. With plans to develop the existing range and introduce new products they will continue to grow and dominate this sector.

When you recruit him or her.
Do the company a BIG favour.

Tell 'em not to beat up their suppliers to provide cheap cr4p pumps with gutless AC synchronous motors that almost immediately need replacing with decent systems for delivering the chemical.

That gem of consultancy come free of charge. It is worth a lot, but will doubtless be ignored by the bean counters. The taste of bad quality lives long in the memory of customers.

At £50K ~ $80K USD, I can't imagine them getting any talent for what here is slightly above entry level for a kid just out of school.

Are salaries in the UK that low? I know they are excessive here, but I would expect the salary for this position to start at $130K (81K GPB) not including bennies.

It depends if the job really is what it says or if it's just "title creep"...
After all I'm the "Chief designer" where I work... but then I'm the only one.
I do suspect I'm underpaid... but then I'm semi retired...
