MARS and COMET - NARROW ESCAPE from COLLISSION on 19th October 2014

10/28/2014 12:58 PM

I happened to read A SCIENCE ARTICLE that about an year back, i.e., during October 2013, Scientists have observed/found out that a Comet is fast approaching in to our Solar System and estimated the path and speed and it may collide with Mars on 19th October 2014. The chances for escape is 0.1%

If collision occurs it will be very disastorous/catostopic for Earth also. The picture can be seen in the link http://www.space.com/25257-mars-comet-siding-spring-photos-c2013-a1.html

As picture indicates the closest distance was estimated by Scientists between the Mars and the Comet was 86000 Miles or 1,38,000 KM and this distance in terms of ASTRONOMICAL DISTANCE is very very small (The distance between our SUN and EARTH is one Astronomical Distance/ Unit and enoted as AU) and is 0.1% - CERTAINLY VERY NARROW ESCAPE.

Another article, says an asteroid of about 110 M x 95 M x 45 M size, with a present velocity of about 65,000 K.M/Hr will hit the EARTH during the year April 2888 (about 874 years from now onwards) with a velocity of 2,42,000 K.M/Hr., and with that impact, the EARTH will be totally disintegrated to pieces and cease to Exit.

My doubt is when our astronomy has not crossed 200 Light Years distance, FOR RESEARCHERS, how come the catostropic diaster is estimated by this astroid from a distance beyond 200 light years distance.

"...the odds of an Earth impact in 2880 were estimated as 1 in 4,000 (0.025%) with a Palermo rating of −0.83.[5][6]"

I'll take that bet.....

"...On March 5, 2001, 1950 DA made a close approach to Earth of 0.0520726 AU (7,789,950 km; 4,840,450 mi).[8] "

1 lightyear = 5,878,625,373,200 miles

Dear Mr.Yahlasit,

Of course 19th October has gone. My question/doubt was/is when HUMAN EFFORT insight has not crossed 200 Light Years how it is possible to reach a distance and identify which is away by 874 years even though the present speed is about 60,000 K.M.

But at the present level of carbon-di-oxide one of the GREEN HOUSE GASES build up in the Atmospheric Air, if it reaches 800 PPM, the human race will extinguish from this MOTHER EARTH. Present level of CO2 has crossed 400 PPM, and it is estimated about another 130 Years the CO2 in the ATMOSPHERIC AIR will reach 800 PPM.

The trees and plants will happily prevent that from happening. Just so long as we allow them to grow.

And if the sun keeps on shining, they will produce sugar for them and for us as well.

Dear Mr.Brave Sir Robin,

The Deforestation, is in the EVER INCREASING RATE. It has been estimated that for atmosphere Equilibrium, the forest coverage should be 1/6 of LAND SURFACE where as it is presently (as estimated by Mauna Lab during Jan 14) it is 1/11 of Land Surface, and at the end of this century it will be 1/32.

Then where is the question of trees and plants will protect us by converting CO2 to O2.

MAN IS THE FIRST and WORST ENEMY TO THE NATURE and MOTHER EARTH.

Yeah, yeah, I know we'll all die. And then the earth will be so much better off without us. So what's the problem?

Actually, the farthest observable objects in this universe are at 13 BILLION light-years.

You can see stars with your naked eye that are (or were once) located at far greater distances in any normal night with no clouds.

If your statement were correct, we would see many stars disappear constantly and many others suddenly appear, just think about it.

Aren't there building codes governing narrow escapes? As professionals with capacity for abstract thought, we should be concentrating on this.
