Dual Direction Electric Generator seems interesting.

BUT I CAN'T PLAY!

Tell the kid from Berkley that reversing the rotation of his generator with every wave cycle insures that this can't work.

You (or someone else on the same network) has done this operation too many times.
You will have to try again tomorrow.

But there is another way of doing this.

With two racks and a shaft between them. The shaft has two "one way" clutches (or ratchets) on it which are reversed in respect to each other. One operated on the upstroke with the right hand rack and the other operates on the down stroke with the left hand rack.

And the shaft continues to rotate in the same direction.

Simple!

And it was done many decades (perhaps a few ceturies) ago.

Carry on. In engineering, whining is acceptable, even during disagreements about seamless tubing in oxygen service.

Absolutely. The ratchet system goes back a long time and is an inspired piece of mech eng. Only snag I can see is the efficiency loss involved in the gearing and the torque loss.

Nope.

I cleaned a bunch of junk off my hard drive and it worked after that.

No clue if that's what did it thought.
