I Knew a Pump Failed!

11/05/2014 3:26 PM

http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2014/11/post-mortem-for-crs-3-antares-turbopump/from my "blown launch thread",I think they'll find a problem with their pumps (rocket motors). it had initial ignition but lost thrust after 5 seconds or so. either it went short on fuel or oxidizer. the data will tell the story.

Hmmm... Sounds suspicious. How did you know that? Who are you really working for?

They said on TV it was a Russian rocket motor from the 1960's. Too bad, it's probably out of warranty.

To me it looked from the footage that there was an explosion in the vicinity of the rocket engine at the instant that the thrust failed. That does not seem to me to be consistent with a pump failure, unless it was the pump that exploded......I suggest we leave it to the experts to determine the cause, if enough evidence remains for that to be possible.

To speculate further .... words without knowledge .... appears to be to be rather pointless and a waste of time and effort that could be spent on something productive!

Are you implying that wild speculation is useless? You just described the most recent US elections!

Money buys elections.

Ignorance drives voters.

Wild speculation is what commercial "news" does.

You are correct, the same goes for the up-coming Australian (Victorian) elections....

As an engineer and by my nature I thrive on facts and truth, but as you say the general populace appears to thrive on wild speculation, bare-faced lies and innuendo!

All rockets are equipped with an explosive charge to destroy the unit if there is a failure or the unit goes off course. This is also true for manned units as well. This is what happened to this unit, started to go off course due to lift loss and they popped the explosive charge. I would rather see this then lots of folks hurt by such a large peice of equipment coming down in a populated area, such as there is on east coast.
