Forget about it, its already there. Auto rotation feature sensors might will be used for such application. All you need is a software to access the sensor and algorithm to start your desired function.

My one has a spirit level, a GPS and a compass in it, so all that is needed is an app. All it doesn't do is cook my dinner, though I suppose even that isn't not too far off.

Analog or digital?

What you nedd if I understnad you text is not a motion sensor but a distance sensor which if moved from object reacts in which ever way you want. This can be for instance a reed relay with a battery and a LED. Or a simple contact maintained open by a pin and which will close whan removed.
