Parallel Operation Of Transformer

11/27/2014 12:09 AM

In our organization we had two 4000 KVA transformer in parallel operation. Now we want to purchase an additional 4000 KVA transformer in case of failure of the existing transformer.

These transformers were installaed 30 years back all the data[NAME PLATE AS WELL AS TESTING & COMMISSIONING ] is not available with us , mainly percentage impedance and No Load Loss & Full load loss which are essential for parallel operation.

So I want to know wheather is it possible to purchase a transformer for successful parallel without these data ?

Is there any other way to find out the data require for parallel operation ?

Well, I would pick up the phone and talk to a few transformer manufacturers, then I'm funny that way. I mean, why wait for someone in an anonymous international engineering forum to find the inclination to respond? You could be on with the job in that time.

Hello from Paraguay. To easy, your need what enrgy use en your metering unit from electricity company. You can read kWH and kVAR y ready. By kVAR you know the impedance and whit kWH you know resistence. The same taps and son.

Bye

First of all I propose to consult a more experienced electrician-an electrical engineer will be better. Second you have to test your existing transformer-if they work in parallel then one transformer will be enough-for connection type [vector group] and short-circuit voltage at least. Then order -following your consulting engineer advice- the third transformer accordingly. For general information try to purchase IEC 60076-1 standard or ANSI C57.12.00 or else.
