Need Infomation on a Standard

12/21/2014 8:13 AM

Good Day everyone.

I hope the festive season is upon you all and is treating you better than you expected.

However I'm still hard at it answering Tender Clarifications.. hence these questions.

My company manufacture Variable Speed Drives to UL1741 & CSA Standards, and as part of a large tender we will supply drives and other pumping equipment to a oil producer. The tender was completed and submitted a month ago and now we have the 'clarifications' on the submitted tender documents and product information.

The client has asked three questions.....

1. VSD Name plate information as per DEP 33.66.05.33 GEN section 6.2
2. The VSD has feature of fly restart as described in DEP 33.66.05.33-GEN section 5.2.2
3. The VSD shall be tested as per DEP 33.66.05.33-GEN section 15

I have never heard of DEP 33.66.05.33, which refers to 'Electrical speed drive systems', during my search for this well hidden set of standards i find it MIGHT be obtainable from a site: www.pngis.net (google search).. however it gives the very basic of information.

further searches have produced nothing fruitful.

I have tried to contact the administrator of the site, but being a Sunday, I guess he/she is having the weekend off or having a Xmas vacation.

So Gents, does anyone know of this standard, can anyone direct me to the written word in reference to the three questions I have posted?

Many thanks in advance

Maybe this obscure "DEP" is owned by the uncle of your prospective customer.

Visualize baksheesh?

Try the Internet Archives.

Looks like it was started by BP.

This isn't much help.↓

I believe DEP standards are from Shell. Stands for Design and Engineering Practice, and all the ones I've seen have that format of 4 two-digit groups.

I suggest you tell your client if he wants you to meet certain standards he should provide them, or get them from the end user if that's not him.

Gents

many thanks for all you comments, suggestions & links

FYI.. even the client/customer does not have a copy of this standard. I contacted Shell HQ.... and no joy there either.

The only thing I did find, was they list other standards that are followed, one being CSA (Canadian Standards Association), so, as our equipment does have a CSA compliance certificate I will submit that.

You never know!

Everyone have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year

I'm not surprised you're having a problem getting the DEPs. When we did offshore work for Shell (via an engineering co) in the 80s, it was the same. Even Shell HQ in The Hague didn't have them! But you should be OK as you can't be expected to comply if nobody can produce the standards. Merry Xmas!

I am not sure but it may be part of techanical specs attached with tender documents DEP may be short form of Department. Please check tender book you may find it there or ask the client to clarify.

A final update....

At last the client DID send the standard..... why they picked it. God only knows!

We comply and exceed this standard, which is pretty much what I thought, BUT, the standard is for a VSD in a building with HVAC, powering a surface motor with a single impeller pump!

My VSD will be out in the desert, no A/C, powering a multi-stage centrifugal pump at a depth of 6000 feet...

So can you feel my pain and frustration?

However.. all sorted and closed out... Have a Great Christmas and a Happy New Year
