Rack Sizing In Terms Of U

01/05/2015 6:10 AM

Hi All,

Can any one tell me how to calculate the size of the rack (in term of U) for 500Nos RJ-45 out let for office building?

Thank you and regards,

Arsad

Yes, there are many vendors of RJ-45 Patch Panels that can assist you. Use your favorite search engine to find them, you are being paid to do this, we aren't, go earn your consulting fee.

Easy. Measure the size of the rack and divide by the size of a U.

48 port RJ45 patch panels are common in 1U 19" rack formats.

So 11U seems reasonable, but, it really depends on what you mean by "out let for office building".

Do these outlets have any/a lot of electronics behind them?

Or, are they wired from another frame: in which case you may need an input shelf, plus the 11U. Or you may need an input shelf plus patching shelves plus an output shelf so that would be between about 39 and 44U.
