TNS Earthing System

01/17/2015 11:53 AM

Why any protective device is forbidden to insert in neutral conductor of TN-S earthing system.?

Your questions scare me. I hope you are not working with anything over 12 V.

If the protective device trips, do you still have an earth connection?

GA & LOL!!!

Very good too.....

Its sad that that so many who post here with questions have not a clue about safety BEFORE they post!!!

Have a great day.

That's how the juice gets back to the power source, through the neutral. You should always open the circuit on the hot side.

Its not quite as you say, please remember AC is not DC, remember the Neutral is linked to earth at some point, so it has either no voltage (seldom) relative to earth, or a very low value.

With unbalanced single phase loads on the three phases, this earth/neutral voltage can vary......hopefully just within the allowance of code.

The way you said it, could be true of a DC circuit connected to earth, but not an AC one, as the "Juice" that you mentioned, the electrons are travelling in both directions (reversing 50 or 60 times a second), not just one direction as you implied!!

You probably know/knew correctly, so please also post correctly, especially where safety is concerned and where beginners/amateurs are asking questions as here.....

Most electrocutions take place between live and earth in the home for example!

It should not be possible to be electrocuted between Neutral and earth, as long as the installation is correctly made/follows code, so to say. But its still not a good idea to try and find out!! Just in case!!!

OK?

If you are talking about a current transformer which will put in operation a relay it could be possible. But, a circuit breaker is forbidden.

The PE has to be continuous all the time. The neutral is vital in order to balance the voltages. The PE conductor is connected with all metallic not energized parts of all electrical machines and appliers and provides personal security against electric shock. If it is not connected to ground then, in insulation damaged case on one side the dangerous potential will be transmitted at all around protected metallic part of all premise.

In an installation where the consumers are single phase the neutral has to stay unchanged in the middle. Then all three phase are-more or less-balanced.

If the actual neutral is broken an artificial neutral will be created and will be close to the loaded phase. In this case the less loaded phase consumers will be exposed to an overvoltage up to phase-to-phase voltage [73% overvoltage].The damage is imminent.

Because, were it to operate, the equipment would still be live. Does that make sense?

Its a logic concept. It makes sense when you think about it!
