7 Pin Connector to Where?

01/19/2015 11:28 AM

Hi,

I am recently making a drawing for a schematics. I was asked to use a 7 pin connector which connects to power with a bunch of components on a tracker, such as brakes, lights, etc. Can anyone give me a full list of these typical components that I can get more idea of where the 7 pin connector leads to, and some insights. Thank you so much!

Have you tried looking up connectors on sites like DigiKey?

Do you mean a 7-way trailer connector? If so, here are some of the standard pin-outs used in the US:

Same in Canada. You can get them at just about any automotive parts store.

No. You already know far more critical information about this circuit design and implementation than anyone here does. What worries me is the combination few little bits of information you do provide us to help you; tracker, brakes and lights. These names imply the design goes on a vehicle but it could also be a CNC machine, surveillance drone aircraft, or many other plausible devices.

The critical question you must ask somebody that knows this product is if a family of connectors is already implied by this design. You may have an already established preference due to fabrication tooling, environments, engineering standards, vibrations, connection cycles, available space, etc.

You seam to be missing at least one? what about the power that recharges the breakaway battery? My RV contains one wire that's for recharging the two 12 volt batteries that power the coach while underway and my enclosed car hauler has power for interior lights as long as the ignition key is on?

Umm, There are 7 pins and 7 pin-outs! Where am I missing one? The question is about a 7 pin plug, is it not?

These are not in any specific order,

7 - Way Connector,

1.W/ - Ground

2. BR/W - Trailer running lamps,

3. BK/lG * Trailer back up lamps

4. DB/ Trailer Electric brake feed (output from electric brake)

5. DG/ Trailer right stop/turn lamp

6. Y/ Trailer left stop/turn lamp

7. O/ Trailer battery feed (hot with key in run only)

This is a tractor, as in farm tractor.

An unknown brand that is doomed to extinction if the OP is an example of their engineering staff.

As the Wikipedia link I posted shows, there are many standards, some of which include aux power out. Not all trailers need it.

Conversation heard many times at work;

PHB: I want everything we do and accept to be wired to a standard.

Dilbert: Which standard?

PHB: The electrical standard, of course.

Dilbert: There are a myriad of different electrical standards, NEC, UL, RS422, Ethernet, etc. You can look them up on the web.

Wally: Don't tell him to look at the web. He'll be looking at comics or cat videos all day.

Dilbert: As long as he stops inspiring us I can live with it.

PHB: You need more inspiration. "Work smarter not harder." Now get back to work.

Dilbert: But what stand...

Wally: <Psst> He wouldn't know a standard if it bit him in the paycheck. We'll write our own standard and get him to sign it.

Dilbert: You mean I'll have to write a new standard and get him to sign it.

Wally: Same difference. Let's get some coffee.

It's tractor and you should quit your job. You are not qualified to do this.

You claim the be an engineer and yet you don't have a clue what you're doing, nor how to get the information you need to perform your job.

Why would you come to strangers and ask them to do your work for you when the information is either available or it doesn't matter?

Have you ever heard of a parts list, bill of materials, build sheet, etc?

I feel sorry for the poor fool that has to try to follow your schematic.

Ask for help there, where somebody may give you the answers.

You should be praying for divine intervention for yourself.

You have been given considerable help by the forum in solving your elementary problems. But, really, asking for this type of help when it is easily available with a simple search is just being helpless, with no good excuse.

Do your own work and learn something!

Electrostatic Discharge Protection

"I would like to know where I can get these type of sensors, and the price range of them. Much appreciated!

Transmission Temperature Sensor

"I looked up on the Canadian Tire website, but they did not provide me any useful "I wonder what kind of protection method we can go with, that does not cost too much money and effort"

Differential Amplifier Does Not Work As Anticipated

"Can anybody tell me why and provide me with the right solutions?"

I apologize that I asked some "dumb" questions, and I am very sorry that I offended you. I cannot promise you I won't be asking more dumb questions, but I do know what I am lack of. I appreciate in any ways how people help, and mostly, I do get what I need, either insights or simply straightforward answers. However, these types of questions are solvable and some other problems are hard to be solved. Self-realization seems to be a barrier to many people. I think after 20 years if I still have a chance to look back to these forums I created, I would be satisfied with many changes will happen to me.

I hope you can be less angry and enjoy every moment of your life. God bless you.

You confuse honesty with anger. If you recall, I have given you ample assistance in the past.

You work for a manufacturer of tractors and farm implements. One would think that you'd know what electrical accessories were in use on them now.

Unless you are inventing a new, revolutionary line of tractors and accessories, everything you will be connecting is already well known and documented.

Others here are free to assist you in any way they choose.

First of all, I won't quit my job based on other people's opinions. Secondly, I want to thank you for being completely honest with me and all your help. Things that you have shown me here I will definitely keep in mind. I just want to address that anybody could have all different types of problems depending on their knowledge and experience. Showing what others what you know can make great influence. However, the way of communicating is also critical which can reflect what kind of person you are. I don't know and I don't what to know what's going on in your life, but I think clearly you can and you deserve a better life.

You have posted 3 times worrying more about others' personal life than giving us the information we need. A Din 7 pin plug won't be any good for a trailer to tractor connection, but it would be fine for the stereo system you are installing in the tractor. If you want help specify fully your needs and stop wasting words.

Try Utilux in Australia.

Utilux.com.au and also sold by RS-online

No I don't have any afilliation with them but I have used their 5 way and 7 way plug and socket combination for may years on cars, trucks and trailers.
