Some airhandlers re circulate the air while other have to filter and remove the air incase the filter fails. You would not want a fume removal system to pump the same air back into the space. If the filter fails then you have a hazardous and maybe a explosive problem. Plus the motors would be sealed to prevent fire, explosions and harm to the motors.

Precision Air Handling Units have metering devices on them to allow you to adjust airflow. Non-precision units do not.

I'm not sure what you mean by a Precision AHU but the closest thing I can think of are AHU's for Clean rooms. If you are looking at a class 100,000 room then in most cases you have one AHU for each room. Each AHU have filteration in each unit as well as filteration at the diffusers and return grilles. They control humidity as well as temperature. These units are specalized units made just for the clean room industry.

The other place that they need a great deal of control are Operating Rooms. These units are very special as well. OR AHU units are mostly all in one units which control Supply temp, humidity, relief air, and fresh air as well as all of the filtation needed for the rooms. They also include air flow measuring stations the monitor the airflow. Where as the Clean room units need a lot more support. Special exhaust systems, airvalves to control the airflow into and out of each room as well as AHU's to condition the freshair.

I hope this helps.
