Analog Address-able Internet Enabled Fire Alarm Control Panel

01/28/2015 9:24 AM

Hi,

There are systems called as 'analog addressable internet enabled' fire alarm control panel.

1. What is analog addressable internet enabled? - In my opinion, 'addressable' only comes with digital thing - but why is it called 'analog addressable' ?

2. Internet enabled must mean that data are sent through internet (or I.P)? I was particularly concerned with fire fighting systems with ADR 3000.

3. Few of smoke detectors use EOLR (End of line resistance). What is its function?

1. Analog means the smoke detectors are capable of reporting the density of smoke or ionized particles in the air, back to the control panel. Addressable means the control panel can individually poll each detector, and therefore knows exactly which detector senses smoke. Internet enabled means the control panel has an internet connection, and can be monitored for activity from a remote location.

2. See my 1.

3. The end of line resistor is a mechanism by which the control panel supervises the integrity of the connecting wires. A small current is applied to the resistor. If a wire breaks, the EOLR load drops, and the panel reports a trouble.

Regs,

In addition to the good answer above, this type of system can have the computing power to monitor a very slow change in detector response--due to accumulated dirt or aging and adjust the alarm threshold accordingly, or give a trouble alert to the building occupants or alarm system supervisor. Quite a lot of good stuff happening in that field.
