Water Cooled Transformer

02/17/2015 12:55 PM

we have water coming in from a single supply and splits at various points so it can cool different areas of the transformer. There are T-pieces at all the points were it splits.I noticed that one of the holes in each t piece is smaller than the other two.Can someone explain the reason behind this?

To balance the flows a bit without using valves?

So that it can only be installed one way round?

You could always telephone the equipment manufacturer. They would certainly know.

Is there a prize for getting it right?

So they can run all the cooling water through one pipe to the transformer instead of multiple lines.

You are using a reducing T. The two like ID's are in line, right? The "branch" port is smaller than the "run" ports.

The two same size ID's are for through flow, "run".

You can order the correct T, or use these.

The reduction in pipe size is a common strategy to maintain pressure and velocity in water distribution systems....

The branches off a manifold are often smaller than the manifold itself.

I'd say always smaller.
