Steam Turbine Extraction Line

02/19/2015 9:34 AM

Hi, I'm a mechanical engineering student. And I am currently taking my power plant design subject. I am assigned to design extraction line. I already read a lot about this topic. I can't find any actual image of extraction line in the internet. And what kind of material do I need to use? or commonly used. I have follow up questions :)
Thank you

Skylark:

1) You join a long line of students who feel that they can assign their homework to strangers on the internet. You are talking to a large group of people who had to do their own homework.

2) Your assignment is bizarre. I have designed many condensate and extraction steam systems. You have read a lot on this topic, yet you do not give us any massflow, temperature and pressure..... yet you expect an answer.?? Change your major to Art History.

3) How does an image on the internet help ? An extraction steam piping sytem looks like any other large piping system in a powerplant.

4) Are you really interested in designing a single extraction line or have you been assigned to perform a steam balance of a steam turbine and your English skills are terrible ?

Im very sorry if im terrible in english. Im trying my best.

I already finished the balancing part. If you will answer my questions that would be great. I dont know how to upload image here. but here are the properties ( 4th extraction, this is before the condenser extraction )
Mass = 17.19330947 lb/s

Temp = 353.5 F

Pressure = 56.063158 psia
Is it possible that there are diffrent material for each extraction line, since the first extraction has very high temp and pressure while in 4th it is low? (ASTM A106)
im sorry for not including this information earlier. :(

I just want the image since i have never seen anything like it before. i just want to be familiar with it.

Thanks for reply.

Since you cite A106, I'll assume you are designing to U.S. standards/codes. Do you have access to ASME B31.1 (and it's references)? It will direct you. And for the temperature and pressure you furnished, A106 would be a good choice. If you don't have access to it, or to instructor-provided excerpts, you are proceeding blindly.

Is your assignment to provide a dimensioned drawing?

What do i need from ASME B31.1? I'll try look for it in google.

Thanks for reply :)

Well, let's start with, "what allowable stress are you using?"

This isn't looking too promising.

hi thank you for this. I dont like to cheat because im going to defend my design.

Is condensing turbine same with extraction turbine?

Please!

This is not a tutoring service either.

First off, im sorry for my bad grammar. All I want is to understand more about these. So here are what im looking for.. And here is the schematic diagram, im working on point 5.

1. Im going to use ASTM A106, but when i check allowable stress table, it looks like ill be going to use the smallest nominal diameter. The Temp is 353.5 F and Pressure is 56.063158 Psia . I dont know if im in right direction of my work, but here is the table . http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/astm-steel-pipes-pressure-temperature-d_742.html

2. Im looking for recommended velocities for designing steam lines. Different references have different answers ( not close ).

3. The reason why i want to see actual image of extraction is because i dont know if it will just go straight down then have expansion loop then go straight again. But since im only designing 1 extraction line and im not considering the other parts that might be in the way, should i draw it like that?

4.Beside from non return valve, what are the other valves? Safety valves?

5. What other factor should i consider in the design?

Thanks for previous replies. I know what you mean.

Why do you need spmeone else's extracting system? Copyright is not yours, you have based it from someone else's design! Try designing it from researching the machine it is designed to protect! 1. Your grammar is bad. 2. Your intelligence is badder 3. Your computer skills are baddest 4. Your copyright Knowledge is Illegal 5. Your university has probably asked Gov to cancel net access to help you succeed. 6. Learn to create a new system, Then you have right of design!

my english maybe bad but i know you cant even speak a single word of my local language. you are the best of everything, especially on not helping.

and im not copying others work. the properties i provided is based on balancing of the system and the schematic diagram is provided to us. sorry if you are expert on this field and im only a student. i know nothing that's why i need someone's help.

thank you for your time
