Is Your Company Slow to Adapt?

Posted August 24, 2009 7:42 AM

Traditional manufacturing companies are based on a pyramid structure, long on management and short on decision makers. Flexible manufacturing organizations tend to adopt flat organizational structures with many departments, each with the power to make product, process, and plant decisions. Is your company slow to identify changing market trends? Is it just as slow to react to changing business conditions? Do you think a little less management might be for your company?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Industrial MRO, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Industrial MRO today.

It seems that management has evolved to putting less trust into the technological thinkers. Some of this trust is lack of understanding of the technology; some of it is bridging the gap of engineer speak to management speak.

This lack of trust spawns too much conservativeness; lack of boldness to try new things.

To be successful, more faith and delagation of boldness to the creators must exist; give them more rope.

Hi, good answer. Company management should give us more rope and freedom to expand our creativity. Too much restriction just block both of us.
