World's Ugliest Bug Contest Underway

Posted November 05, 2009 8:37 AM

From Discovery News Top Stories: Discovery Channel:

What's the world's ugliest bug? You can help decide the winner, per the following release from Arizona State University (and please don't miss the fun video at the end):

"The Shocker," a paper wasp whose sting can cause anaphylactic shock and "The Stinger," a scorpion that crushes its prey with pincers and injects them with a neurotoxic venom, are just two of the 10 contenders in this year's Ugly Bug Contest.

The article World's Ugliest Bug Contest Underway was originally published on the Animal News Discovery blog November 2009.

"Most of the bugs in this year's contest weigh less than 3 grams – the weight of 10 average grains of table salt ..."
