Movie Cars: The Wraith

Posted December 04, 2009 11:00 AM by CarDomain

You've probably never heard of a 1986 movie called The Wraith, but it featured this killer Dodge concept car called the M4S Turbo Interceptor. Its little four-banger had a lot more power than the B-movie ever enjoyed at the box office. Now CarDomain member escaperoute has put together a cool ride page detailing the history and restoration of this movie car.

"The car you see here is based off a Dodge/PPG concept car called the M4S Turbo Interceptor. M4S stands for 'mid engine 4 cylinder sport'. The M4S was a technological marvel for it's time. The idea was to squeeze as much horsepower as they could out of a 4 cylinder engine. The Chrysler 2.2 engine was modified with a 16-valve Cosworth head, Bosch fuel injection, twin turbochargers with air-to-air intercooling. The M4S cranked out a whopping 440 horses and had a top speed just shy of 195 miles per hour."

440hp from 2.2L...that would be 200 hp per Liter, so all those tricks would mean they could've (but obviously DIDN'T) scale the engine down to a 1.0L 200 hp engine which probably would've made EPA-MPG very, very happy!
