How to Ruin Christmas in 29 Easy Steps

Posted December 17, 2009 9:10 AM

From mental_floss Blog:

I'm as big a fan of Christmas as the next person, but I'm wary of celebrating too much. I like a little eggnog, a few presents, a carol or two. But festive sweaters every day for a month, 10,000 watts of intricate lighting in your yard and holiday-themed songs on the stereo from morning 'till night? It sounds like an exaggeration, but I know people who celebrate that way, and it ruins it for me every time!

I like Christmas as much as anyone, but it does get real hard to find a radio station not playing christmas music every few minuits. Christmas music is fine, on Christmas eve and Christmas, but not all month. I may break down and stick a cd player in the work truck finally this year.

Not an option in the truck I know but I listen to streaming internet radio at work. Either Radio Caroline or Blues Radio UK, at the moment I'm listening to Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit', not at all Christmasy.

I think you can do it using an Iphone connected to your car stereo. I'll have to ask my 14 year old daughter.

She's a lot more savy about this new stuff than this old fart

I, for one enjoy "Christmas in July" ... and THROUGHOUT the year...!

From the age of 21 (for a period extending over 20 years), I walked along with those who once 'knew' our creator ... but chose to turn (our) backs to Him.

When life became an unbearable shambles, I prayed fervently for His help to make things right , WHILE searching for the answers to all of those "questions" (i.e., doubts) raised by all of the agnostics and atheists alike. He gave me those answers, just as He gives them to all who truly seek the Truth and the Light.

as 'Guest' in post1 prompted ... [with link to Diwali ~ celebrating "a legendary king" (of whom) "A significant section of Hindus do not doubt his historicity"] ... I came to realize that the 'falseness' of ALL those mythological kings and characters alike could not in any way-shape-or-form detract from the Truth; the complete and undeniable historicity and workings of Jesus of Nazareth.

Unraveling all the mysteries that science has revealed for us thus far cannot BEGIN to compare to the year-round Joy provided by the gifts of His Holy Spirit!

... Joyeux Noël ! ... ¡Feliz Navidad!

So long as the celebration is "all-about-Him", Let-It-Ring...!

If it is all about the "tree" or the "lights", somebody is MISSING the BEST part...!

Good message for those that understand. I'm still working on "stewardship" and a few other issues, but this one day of the year is a wonderful reminder that there is a "right" way to do things every day of the year.

I see it like a big "RESET" button, to start again, refreshed and ready for another year. Fortunately. I don't need the drone of radio or such while focusing at work, and then on the farm at home, the quiet noises of the bush are wonderful for reflection, so the saturation levels of theme music don't get at me.

By the way, here we are just starting into the really good mangoes, cherries and stone fruit. Summer is a wonderful season. We give away steamed puddings, cakes, rum balls and such rather than expensive presents.

May the joy of the season fill you and sustain you through the year.
