Pack Your Bags for Baghdad

Posted December 22, 2009 8:20 AM

Baghdad might not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning your next vacation. But a newly reconstructed Baghdad is about to become a city with a bright tourism future. Not only are concrete plans underway to implement a new, state-of-the-art $4 billion metro system, the embattled city's first post-war five-star hotel, the Rotana Baghdad, is currently under construction. Also planned? Park areas, a city-wide canal, cinemas, world class, eateries, and much more. Check out Baghdad, Iraq's, bright battle-free, tourism future here.

First then lets just call the US Army personnel there Tourists.

Second lets wonder what religion is allowed.

Third, is Disney interested in building an amusement park?

IMax, great! Can't wait! I'll go to Bagdad and watch Avatar! -Do they sell popcorn with lots of butter?

"This year, why not make it Bulgaria!"

It could work out. People are weird. Down in Charleston South Carolina, or what we called Sub Carolina when I was growing up, tourist like to look at dark cellars where slaves were held.

"What did you do on your vacation?"

"I went to Bagdad and walked around in the former Green Zone looking at Wax Figures of people whose heads were shot off, and displays that showed the workings of Improvised Explosive Devices. It was very educational, and the food was great!"

"What's your planned vacation for next year?"

"Well we've decided it was about time we got to vacation at Auschwitz."

"Sounds great!"

"Yes, the children are really excited."
