Cheap Trick?

Posted February 27, 2010 8:01 AM

Considering they won the Green Car of the Year for 2010 in part because of weight reductions due to plastic use, was it fair for Audi to target single-use plastics in its SuperBowl ad?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Plastics & Resins, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Plastics & Resins today.

Hell, all's fair in love, war, and advertising, even if it's all fluff and ignores various downsides. Caveat emptor.

If the idea is to go as fast as possible and nothing else matters, then using one-use-only stuff is all right, period.

Cheers! DZ

Green? As in 'Natural Flavoring'* 'Certified Organic' and 'Dell Customer Service' aren't?

Green? As in Meaningless Marketing Hype? Green as in The Greenwashing of America?

That kind of Green?

Some in the plastics community, of which I am a member, have gotten their collective undies in a wad about this commercial. Editorials in several plastics publications have taken on a defensive tone. I saw the ad as depicting the enviropolice as overzealous and portrayed them in a satirical manner.

You don't have to look very far to see this overzealous activity in earnest. Just look at the global warming movement and the extremes some of the proponents have gone to cook the books to make the case.

Humor can win an argument when all else fails.
