Rule on Lead Safety Set to Take Effect

After almost two decades of delays, the Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday that it was on track to implement a regulation requiring the construction industry to help prevent cases of lead poisoning among children. The agency said it expected more than 125,000 renovation and remodeling contractors to be trained and certified in lead-safe work practices by April 22, when the new regulation takes effect.

There's a terrific marketing opportunity here for anyone who sells a low to moderate cost piece of portable test equipment that will determine approximate lead levels in surfaces of buildings requiring refinishing or other maintenance activities that may release lead dust. Especially since any building predating 1978 is suspect.

I also wonder how landfill managers will react to disposal of 6 mil PE sheet and other materials used for lead containment and mitigation. May not be as cheap a disposal answer as the bureaucrats and environmentalists think.

Oh for a portable Raman. I just know it would be the best ten thou I ever spent.. but how to get the ten thou.. .

It's interesting that the fine per day is right at the price for an XRF analyzer. Hand held, non isotope model.
