All of these archaeological sites are being dug up and uncovered all over the world all the time but what I want to know is....How did they get buried so deep since it is said that it takes the earth 500yrs to make 1 inch of dirt. WHO or What buried them? Why were all of these sites buried? Recently at STONEHENGE they found a village buried and they think this is the village of the people that built it. Now they say Stonehenge is bigger than originally thought because of the recent finding of circles of timbers buried around it. WHO, what when where and how did all of this stuff get buried so fast? Was there a disaster we don't know about?

I think you will find that the 5 cm per millennium is an average rate over the entire planet. There are places that are eroded while other are built up. Just look at the amount of sediment the average river caries and how much can be deposited in a flood. There is also the problem of structures sinking over long periods of time due to things like poor foundations, earthquakes volcanic eruptions etc.

In areas of human aggregation the average terrain builds upward much faster. In some localaties at as much as 10 or more feet per millennium. :-)

Urban renewal, reconstruction following floods, fires, earthquakes, etc.
