Chemical Safety Act: Boon or Bane?

Posted May 02, 2010 8:14 AM

The proposed Chemical Safety Act creates some significant changes in the way that chemical companies would be required to provide safety information. While the legislation may have a positive affect on consumer safety, it could mean significant changes for the chemicals industry. What changes do you believe the new legislation will bring? Do you think that the proposed changes will be positive? Are there other ways to protect consumer safety without increasing regulation?

Less explosions, less fires, less injuries, less deaths, more workers working safely, and more workers going home to their families after every work shift.

Actually from a safety, quality, and quantity point, the act is still lacking.

Here's a press release from the bills sponsor

While it's easy to criticize any regulation as burdensome to business

It is hard to justify the added expense of safety & disclosure, without regulatory requirement

Consumers & employee's interests beyond monetary aren't given adequate representation, without additional oversight

on the other side of the coin, anyone who uses chemicals on the controlled list, has the feeling of "signing your life away"
