Netwon's Apple Tree Sample to Defy Gravity

Above is a hunk of the apple tree that inspired Sir Isaac Newton to develop his theory of gravity when he saw fruit falling from its branches in 1666. The bark, and a photo of Sir Isaac, will soon defy gravity aboard the Atlantis space shuttle slated for launch this week.

Surely that's not "defying" gravity. It's not levitating magically, is it?

It will be obeying all laws of gravity throughout its flight - but being further away from the largest body in the vicinity, it will be subject to less of a gravitational influence. During takeoff (and landing) it will be subject to more gravitational acceleration.

A little scientific exactitude, please
