Wood-Powered 'Biomass' Plants Have Critics Barking

Posted May 26, 2010 8:09 AM

From NPR Topics: News:

Plans for plants that generate electricity by burning wood chips and sawdust are in the works around the country, fueled by stimulus funds. So?

Let's see. Wood. A sustainable, renewable, carbon-neutral fuel that is produced domestically, keeps our workers employed at many levels, reduces our dependence on petroleum from hostile parts of the world, maintains habitat for forest creatures, keeps open spaces free from sprawl and development, growing trees capture carbon and clean the air, does not release heavy metals into the environment . . .

I'd like to take a nice kiln-dried 2 by 4 upside the heads of these butt-head so-called scientists. Some people will never be hucking fappy.

GA. We have lots of co-generation plants in the West here... mostly at mill sites. We have a lot of surplus bio-mass too. With all the wildfires in the West it seems targeted bio-mass (forest under-story clearing) reduction as a supply for power production seems like an obvious answer. But the bureaucrats (USFS, BLM, etc) are ________. Fill in the blank.
