Internet Addresses in Short Supply

The internet as we know it is reaching its limits. Within 18 months it is estimated that the number of new devices able to connect to the world wide web will plummet as we run out of "IP addresses" -- the unique codes that provide access to the internet for everything from PCs to smart phones.

Honestly, this isn't a big deal. Even with the slow roll out of IPv6, there is a solution that is used with any limited commodity. Sales. Already we have sales of land, bandwidth, employees, . . .

I'm sure that if IP addresses were handled like any valuable commodity, a marketplace will be established and prices will be determined by supply and demand. Sure, will there be critics who say that access to the internet will be limited to those with the most money and influence? That will play a part. It already does in so many parts of our lives. Why should we expect this to be any different?
