Wind Turbine Turmoil?

Using hydraulics to extract power from wind turbines offers simplicity and lower cost compared to gearboxes. But lower efficiency, especially for larger wind generators, is a design hurdle. Do you think large wind turbines can ever take advantage of simpler hydraulics?

Just seemes like the reduction in workmans comp insurance alone would make this worth the reduced efficiency.
