Quick Trick?

Posted December 08, 2011 7:37 AM

A quick, Band-Aid solution to an engineering problem is often dismissed since it may be perceived as too "quick and easy." But some shortcuts can be appropriate to the situation. Have you run across any of these in your career?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Hydraulics, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Hydraulics today.

If someone hasn't, then he (she) is not an engineer.

Or is a newbie.

Earle is not happy at you. He just rolled in grave

The solution to all problems don't need to be complicated.

Like Earle's solution to a problem. No need to put it down.

All fixes are kinda "easy" when you know what you are doing.( or know how to find out)

I've lost track of the number of times I've been asked, "Is that it"?

Followed by "I could have done that myself"!

To which I reply "Well, why didn't you"?

Then the "I dunno" look....Yeh exactly, you don't know.....

These are credibility maintenance miracles. Magic is a black art.

Who shall I invoice???

An old proverb,[I think it's one], is 'two heads is better than one'. Many times when I became stumped and had no way to solve a problem so large there was no solution, up came a 'kid', a farmer, a layperson, and even a drunk, [or may had been another drunk who knows] and said why we used to do this all the time, or this is how to make it simple. This is the reason behind the 'Kiss' program and I never fail to ask, when the onlookers eyes reflect knowledge, "what do you think"..
