All the "hemodynamic modeling and regulation algorithms aside", the future lies more in custom-grown / regrown meat hearts rather than electromagnetic ones.

Still, if mechanical hearts like this can come online sooner and act as a stopgap until we figure out how to do that, I'm all for it.

Currently the longest-lived mechanical heart recipient made it about 7 years. The longest-lived transplant patient survived 31 years, I think. Yes, that's totally comparing apples to fruit flies in a number of hugely unfair ways. But it's just a little factoid to dwell on.

Yeah, considering they can't even make a decent artificial urinary sphincter* which will last a mechanical heart will always be a stop gap.
