Posted August 27, 2010 10:11 AM

Probably 15 or 20 years ago, maybe in mother earth news, i read about a process to make salmonela basically non-existant in your

chickens and eggs.

The process simply required you to spray the baby chicks with some other type of friendly bacteria, which merrily feasted upon any salmonella present.

the chickens would remain salmonella free for their entire lives, because the salmonella eating bacteria colonized on the chicken for life.

Does anyone remember reading about this? what is the bacteria strain called, and where can it be purchased?

Or was it discovered that the bacteria was useless, or evolved into somthing useless later on.

This seemed to be an amazing treatment for chickens, especially for ones that were kept as easter "pets" amd raised around children.

From what i remembered from the article, even the chickens poop was salmonella free.

Please, anyone with knowledge of this speak up.

I would like to begin raising a few chickens again, for food and organic pest control. thanks, charles.

Same thing happened in Britain 20 years ago, the lazy egg industry giants and the cowardly Conservative govt sacrificed the junior cabinet minister Edwina Currie in their cover up of the scandal, and she was the one who pointed out the problem of Salmonella in the large chicken farms.
