Will Apple Retire the iPod?

Posted September 14, 2010 8:03 AM

Now that multifunction gadgets like the iPhone and iPad products are getting the most attention from consumers, how will Apple maintain iPod's relevance? Given that the iPod name is synonymous with handheld multimedia devices for many people, how do you think Apple should handle the iPod brand? What would be the consequences of renaming or killing the iPod product line?

Hmm, lets supose Heinz decided to rebrand as just 'beans'. Come to think of it, the supermarket 'own-brands' are just as good. Don't expect a Christmas card from Steve .

They are obviously trying to kill off the iPod Classic because it doesn't have access to the "App Store" which is where apple makes their money from iPods/iPhones.

This was seen when they updated every iPod model this month EXCEPT for the iPod Classic. they will continue to sell it for now because none of their other models come close to the 160GB of storage that the Classic has, but they've shown they don't want to invest anything into it by not giving it even a slight update.

I collect tons of music and anything less than 160GB model just doesn't cut it for me and even if they do release a 128GB iTouch next year, the price will be absurd due to the cost of flash memory that large.
